There are a lot of great things about spring. The NCAA Tourney, the NBA regular season turning into the NBA playoffs, and the start of the Major League Baseball season. Spring means so much for baseball. No more worrying about how awful you were last season, only the hope of a new summer.
But as I sat and watched the Astros play the San Diego Padres last night, I could only be disappointed. It was the bottom of the 3d inning of opening day, and my spring optimism had already turned into something else completely. That same old feeling of dread set in. Not even 1/324th of the way into the season, I could already see that the Astros had no chance.
Let's just take a look at some numbers:
Astros ace Roy O: 5.1, 11 hits, 3 earned
Padres ace Jake Peavy: 7 innings, 3 hits, no runs
Is it already time to put up the RIP?
